Bright Red Book Shelf Project
A Reading Initiative for Children

Bright Red Bookshelves give access to children's books for ages birth to five. The shelves were created  because of the lack of libraries in the area. They are located in key businesses around the Northland School District. Books are marked with a Project Read sticker and can be borrowed and returned at any time.

By age three 90% of a child's brain has grown. Reading to a child early on can help develop connections in the brain that will lead to better reading, writing, and communication skill later in life.

A child that has been read to has heard more than 30 million words by age three and has a vocabulary of 20,000 words by age six. The number of words a young child understands is a predictor of later reading ability. -Project Read
